Fly Fishing
Some of the most experienced fly fishing guides in the Western United States live in this area, and their intimate knowledge of the Arkansas ensures you of a great day on the river. ArkAnglers in Salida also has access to exceptional private water fishing spots, and they’ll outfit you with waders, boots, rods, reels and encouragement. Float trips can also be arranged through Arkansas River Fly Shop.

Hiking, Biking & Mountain Climbing
Get to know Colorado’s backcountry up close and personal with a jeep rental or tour that can take you (and your bike) to such out-of-the-way places as Turret, a revived ghost town that is now an artists’ community. Visit famed St. Elmo, which boasts a (living) population of four. Or tackle Mt. Shavano, one of the state’s famed “Fourteeners” – peaks that soar more than 14,000 feet above sea level!
Horseback Riding, Rocky Mountain-Style
We pamper your horses as if they were our own – and we hook you up with experts to take you on daylong or half-day trips. If it’s a quiet ride at sunset you’re wanting, this is your place!
Indian Summer/Autumn Glory
Sometime after the heat of summer but before the first snowfall comes a season we call Indian Summer. Spun-gold sunlight slants through the trees, softening the very air you breathe. Aspen leaves shiver and dance as they turn from green to gold to red, and the scrub oak’s crimson hues set the hillsides ablaze with color. God’s quilt will wrap your heart in its beauty. Bring your camera!
Wintertime is Time for Fun
Colorado is known for its world-class winter sports, and Monarch Ski & Snowboarding is a short 20-minute drive from High Rock Ranch. Summit County, with its four superb ski/board areas, is 90 minutes away, and Crested Butte, one of the last “laid-back” ski resorts in the country, is two hours from us. You can bunny-slope it or pound down the moguls – each area is perfect for all levels of expertise. If cross-country, telemarking, snowshoeing or snowmobiling are more your cup of wintertime tea, we have that as well. Equipment rentals are available for all.
Leisurely Down-Time
Sometimes a stroll through shops, boutiques and galleries – with a stop for pastries and coffee along the way – is just what you need. And as your very good luck would have it, historic downtown Salida has a bona fide Walking Tour that includes those diversions and more. It might not be Bright Lights/Big City, but the slower pace of our town is sure to please.
